Boost phone performance

Boost android performance

There are few things to be considered to boost your android phone. Our phone may be slow after 1 or 2 year or within that period. But what can we do to run the phone smoothly without any problem.

Update your android to latest firmware

Updating your phone to latest version is good when your phone is stuck, or your phone have bugs, your phone is hung. You might be in Android Kitkat 4.4, then you should upgrade to Android Lollipop 5.0 or higher version if available. The update is given by the mobile manufacturer company over OTA(Over The Air) updates or can be available in .zip package.

Note: Updating your phone isn't a good thing every time. If you think, your phone runs smoothly, there is no problem at all, then you don't need to update your phone. Sometimes updating your phone gives you problem and you can't restore your phone officially.

Remove Unwanted Apps

The step is simple. You just uninstall those apps which you don't need all the time. The phone comes pre-installed with system apps which can be sometimes buggy. So it's good to uninstall those apps or if you can't uninstall just disable it. It will free your RAM and gives you best performance.

Disable Unnecessary Apps

Disable those apps which you don't need all the time. It's same as the above. You don't need all the apps every time. So it's better that you disable those.

Update Apps

Don't use old version apps which may cause your phone to perform slow. Always use updated apps which will run smoothly. Sometimes the developer decrease the app size fix some bugs and add extra features to the app. You can update the apps in Google Play Store. You need to have a gmail account to use the app.

Note: Updating your apps will increase your apps size and you'll have less storage available. So move your apps to external storage if you have SD card available. If you internal memory is 16 GB, you don't need to worry about that.

Keep less widgets

We all love widgets which is displayed on our smartphone. Some loves clocks and other google widgets and so on. But they drains the battery quickly. And they use some of the portion of the RAM to be displayed. So keep less widgets on your smartphone. Keeping less widgets will help you to run smoothly without any disturbance. More and heavy widgets can make your phone slow.

Turn off Android Live Wallpaper

Android live wallpapers are very pretty to display and every people loves it. But sometimes android live wallpapers might be giving trouble while running any task on your phone.

Use Lightweight Apps

A lightweight app is the lite version of the same app. Lite apps has the same feature as of the original app but some features are missing to work on small devices. A lightweight app consumes takes less storage and consumes less battery. Similarly it is fast in performance than heavy apps.

For eg. A 'Facebook' app in android has a size of 40 MB and it becomes 200 MB after the user installs on his/her device. But in other hand, a 'Facebook Lite' app has a size of 1.5 MB and it becomes less than 30 MB after installing. The cache size may vary. So it's better to install a lite version app if necessary.

Root your phone

What is Rooting a phone? What are the pros and cons of rooting?

Rooting is also known as jailbreaking in iOS. It is the process of unlocking the operating system so that you can uninstall bloatwares, update the custom OS, recovery, kernel, overclock or underclock the processor for your high performance and better battery life. Rooting your phone is beneficial but it has some disadvantages too. Before rooting, you should consider some of the things like it will void your warranty, you can't restore your warranty, etc. But it has benefits too. Rooting lets all user-installed applications run privileged commands typically unavailable to the devices in the stock configuration. You can customize your phone on its own way. It gives better battery life. Rooting can be done through various ways; either from PC or from Android itself. There are lots of software available for rooting like KingoRoot(PC and Android), iRoot(PC), Framaroot(Android), KingRoot(Android), etc.

Advantages of Rooting

  • Install Custom ROM

It gives you the option to install a custom ROM on your device. A custom ROM has beautiful interface. There are various custom ROMs availabe such as CyanogenMod(CM), Paranoid Android, MIUI, AOKP, Lewa OS, etc. But CyanogenMod is the most popular custom ROM. It is suitable for many devices like Google Nexus, Samasung Note Series, Galaxy Series, Moto, etc. You can install a custom ROM if you're not satisfied with your stock ROM. A custom ROM can be installed by flashing the ROM.>

  • Uninstall Bloatware

Bloatware are sometime also known as those crappy apps which comes pre-installed on your device by the manufacturer. You can't uninstall those system apps. You can only disable those apps. You need to root your device in order to uninstall those crappy apps. So rooting your phone can uninstall those bloatware.

  • Increase Battery Life

You can actually increase your battery life with your phone rooted. If you think planning to dump your phone just because of less battery then you're going wrong way. You can't make the phone's battery as the new one. But you'll have the change of more battery backups when your phone is rooted.

  • Boost your phone's performance

Your phone might be slow after the constant use for 2-3 years. You can then reset your phone to increase some of the performance. But rooting your phone can boost your phone's performance. Yes it does. When you root your device, you can now uninstall your crappy apps and free some of the RAM to boost the speed of your device.

  • Install custom kernel

Android Devices uses Linus Kernel. Kernel can be the important item on any computers. Every things which we do in our phone is done with the help of kernel. Likely OS in the computer is the interface between users and hardware. Similarly, if the Camera application needs the hardware to do anything, it sends a request to kernel. The tasks such as opening any app to connecting phone to other devices, all are controlled by the kernel. The stock kernel in your phone may not be so effective in comparison to custom kernel. A custom kernel gives you full access to control you device.

You can overclock and underclock the CPU speed to boost your performance and increase your battery life. OverClocking makes your phone super fast but it drains your battery quickly whereas UnderClocking will make your phone's performance a bit slower but it saves battery.

  • Keep Latest OS

Yes, it lets you install the latest version of OS. Suppose you've Android KitKat 4.4 and your phone is too old to get the latest OS update but you want to taste Android Lollipop 5.0 on your phone. At that time, rooted phone might help you to update the phone to its latest firmware. You can download update.zip for your phone or either you can update through OTA(Over the Air) updates.

  • Install Custom Recovery

The android's stock recovery isn't so powerful. But when you root your phone, you can install custom recovery. A custom recovery has many advantages like taking Nandroid Backups, Restore Android through several restore points, install custom ROMs, zips, kernels, etc.

  • Block ads in any apps

Most of the modern apps come with ads. Ads can be annoying for some users. You can't disable or block ads from any app. You can block the ads but it will come again and again in non-rooted phones. But if your phone is rooted, you can block the ads. The apps like Adblock Plus and LuckyPatcher will block the ads from popping in application.

  • You're now a superuser

A superuser is the one who have the full access to the system administration. A super user can modify settings of the device. Modification includes changing, adding or removing data, hiding data from security, etc. When you're a superuser, you can actually access to the root of your device and can modify some of the data files and folders.

Disadvantages of Rooting

Rooting your phone isn't good every time. You need to kill some of the things before and after rooting. The disadvantages of rooting are:

  • It can brick your phone

Bricking your phone means your phone won't turn on in any way. It can brick you phone if you don't follow the right procedures while rooting your phone. So every time, when you root your phone, you should be strict while following procedures or you'll have your phone bricked. You can never fix your bricked phone. No it's not true. You can after hard resetting or restoring but the steps can be complicated. So make sure you do the same process as mentioned to root the phone.

  • Rooting voids your warranty

Don't root your phone if your phone is running under warranty. Because when you root your phone, your warranty data is erased from the phone. So make sure to root your phone once you expire your warranty period.

  • Problems with updates

You might feel some problems while the system update when your phone is rooted. The system can crash or reboot automatically or may be some other problems.

So if you don't care of these things, you can root your phone and add a new life to your phone but make sure you follow the procedures while rooting your phone.
